I’m so glad we were able to find a farm to use for our session. It was a perfect day and we were able to get amazing portraits! The light was just sick. Sick means awesome here. So pretty and sparking! Michael is a great sport and Rebecca is so sweet. I hope Mom doesn’t freak out too much about all the kissing, er, snuggling… (inside joke!)

When is the right time? It’s kind of like what people say about having kids “If you wait until you can afford them, you’ll never have them.”   Kind of anyway. What I am saying is that you never will have a right time to do portraits. But how would you feel tomorrow if you couldn’t do them? Unfortunately, that happens too often. People wait and someone is lost before you ever had the chance.

Take the Miller Family for example. This is my sister and her husband and in-laws. Her husband Jason will be leaving for Afganistan too soon.  His sweet mom has had some health problems. So, despite all their busy schedules, and trying to coordinate lives of three households, we made it work and got this done. If they can do it, you can do it too. :)

But when people are as good looking, funny and creative as Theresa and Bryce it’s even more fun! When talking to Theresa about the engagement session I asked her about the things they like to do and how we can incorporate their personality into their session. Theresa explained that they like beer. Well, who doesn’t like beer, right? So, we started our session at my favorite beer joint, Monks House of Ale Repute. They have like 5000 kind of beer there. So, if you are a beer person, go there. Last time I was there, I partaked (partook? whatever…) in the Raspberry Ale, and it was delicious. A little too delicious. Oops.

Anyway, we started off at Monks. After a few photos inside and a few beers for Bryce, we headed out. It was a gloomy and cloudy day and I was worried all day it was going to rain. Well, Theresa had an umbrella. A yellow one in fact. Turns out Theresa and Bryce are huge How I Met Your Mother fans. There’s an entire storyline involving a yellow umbrella and Ted and Robin.. and it’s a long story, but you can read about it here.

And then there is a Blue French horn, another Ted and Robin reference. I only catch episodes here and there, but I am pretty sure I need to buy the DVD set now and watch it.

Here they are… So cute!

Anyway, Theresa and Bryce are super cute, super fun and I cannot wait for their wedding!

He has lost most of his teeth and has big buck teeth right now that I just adore. I think he’s so cute in them! He currently loves basketball, wrestling and football. He loves watching football with his Dad and cheering on those poor Minnesota Vikings. He loves Gogurt. He always steals my phone to plan Angry Birds. He hates wearing a coat. He doesn’t like to take baths, but loves getting dirty. He smiles a lot. He’s mostly happy all the time. He is usually sweet, and he is always going to be my little boy. <3

 

We had this party a few weeks back at the Skyforce game. It was pretty awesome. At the end of the night he asked if next year he could have his party there too. Parents, it’s a great deal too. No clean up! Plus, in comparison to other birthday party hosts, it’s very inexpensive. Call Kyle at the Skyforce office to book a party!

My husband was Airborne in the Army, my brother in law is getting ready to serve his second tour in Afganistan, and countless friends and family are military. Of course I would photograph their military night.

When I got there, it was explained to me that a special ceremony would be happening at half time. I asked a few questions and just went on with the night. I did not realize that I would be photographing one of only two living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest honor bestowed in the military. The Congressional Medal of honor is given to those who distinguish themselves through “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States.” It’s a very, very big deal.

Governor Dennis Dugaard would be presenting Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry an award. Also, dozens of brand new recruits would be sworn into duty.

Sgt. Petry was injured in Afganistan in 2008. This is the story he told on David Letterman. Watch this and meet a true hero.
